David Wong
is the founder of the Texas Chinese Performing Arts Association (TPCAA), the artistic director of Elite Performing Arts Center (EPAC), and the conductor of the North America Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO) and the Elite International Youth Orchestra (EIYO). Mr. Wong also founded the Dallas Chinese American Youth Chamber Orchestra (DCAYCO), the first full-size Asian orchestra in the United States.

Under Mr. Wong’s leadership, the TPCAA has made great strides in a short period of time. His professional career as a conductor includes several critically acclaimed concert tours in Taiwan, China, and several cities in the United States, including performances at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Morton H. Myerson Symphony Center and the Majestic Theater in Dallas.

Mr. Wong strongly believes in the power of music to bring people together. He dedicates his life to the spread of Asian musical heritage in America. Mr. Wong’s contribution has been recognized and supported by the City Arts Commission in Texas and by governments in Taiwan and China. He was honored as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Youths in Taiwan in 1993. He was also the recipient of the Music and Culture Award from the Greater Dallas Asian-American Chamber of Commerce in 1996. He received the 14th Annual Golden Eagle Award from the Tamkang University in 2000 in Taiwan, and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Achievements

In the past few years, the TPCAA has provided sponsorship to the North American Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO) and the Elite International Youth Orchestra (EIYO). Our orchestras have achieved worldwide recognition over the last decade with numerous concert tours in Taiwan, China, Singapore, and across the United States:

North America Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO): Founded in 1995 by David Wong, the NAEYO brings together talented young musicians from around the country. In the past decade, the NAEYO has achieved wide recognition with numerous concert tours in Taiwan, China, and across the United States, including performances at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Auditions are given each year in several cities in the United States.

Elite International Youth Orchestra (EIYO): The EIYO is a member of the American Symphony Orchestra League. It brings together a multi-ethnic group of musicians to perform music in North America and Asia. All of the EIYO artistic endeavors are overseen by an advisory board consisting of members from the School of Music at the University of North Texas.

Below are some of the highlights of our past orchestral performances:

1992: Performed for the Ms. USA Pageant in Plano, Texas, which was televised nationwide by CBS and in 50 other cities around the world.

1993: Performed at the Dallas Multicultural Festival.

1994: Performed at the opening ceremony for the World Cup in Dallas.

1995: David Wong founded the North America Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO). The inaugural International Concert Tour included a performance at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. The orchestra also gave concerts in Los Angeles and several cities in Taiwan. While touring in Taipei at the National Concert Hall, the orchestra was warmly received by the then President of Taiwan, Lee Teng-Hui.

1996: The NAEYO gave five concerts in Dallas, Houston, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Taiwan (as guests of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra).

1997: During the “Two Capitals Concert Tours,” the NAEYO traveled to Taipei, Taiwan and Beijing, China for joint performances with local youth orchestras.

1998: Members of the first three NAEYO orchestras united for a special reunion performance at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

1999: The NAEYO performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., which was followed by successful concert tours in Singapore and Taiwan.

2000: The NAEYO celebrated its five-year anniversary with a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, marking the coming of age of the NAEYO as an international orchestra.

2001: The TPCAA has its permanent home, the Elite Performing Arts Center (EPAC), in Plano, Texas, just north of Dallas, with state-of-the-art facilities.

2005: The TPCAA sponsored the Elite International Youth Orchestra (EIYO) program.
